On January 16th, FrenchSys participated in the plenary session of the France Payments Forum, alongside STET (Régis Folbaum) and b.connect (Pierre Chassigneux).
This provided an opportunity for Jean-Daniel GRIES (President) and Cédric SARAZIN (Director) to:
- Recall the dynamic growth of card acceptance in France and the organization of this virtuous ecosystem.
- Provide an update on the migration of terminals to the new FRv6 standard and to PIN-Online for making contactless card payments above €50
- Present FrenchSys’s 2025 projects and studies, notably regarding the API-fication of protocols, better integration of all card schemes, and the improvement of compliance verification for e-commerce solutions.
The dynamic growth of card acceptance in France was reflected in 2024 by an increase of card transaction volumes at points of sale, both in-store and online. It was also visible in the diversity of acceptance terminal types and across all stakeholders card schemes, acquirers, developers of acceptance solutions (terminals, online/mobile solutions), and transaction processors all of whom utilize FrenchSys’s technical specifications, communication protocols, and operational services.
Meanwhile, the FRv6 migration reached a major milestone in early 2025, as half of the standalone in-store terminals in the field have now migrated to FRv6, enabling:
- True support for all card schemes (Amex, CB, including meal vouchers, Discover, JCB, Mastercard, UnionPay, and VISA)
- Contactless card payments beyond €50 thanks to PIN online
- Increased payment speed
- Optional receipt printing
- Easier maintenance
- And plenty of new functionalities
One of the key benefits of this new FRv6 standard is also the very wide choice of terminals already available: more than 53 solutions for over 1,500 configurations developed by 11 manufacturers.
In this context of positive momentum, FrenchSys also presented its projects for the future, with the continuation of FRv6 migration efforts, enhanced support for card schemes in all their innovative functionalities, and a project for the API-fication of the standardized 2AP protocol (formerly CB2A), which connects terminals to acquirers in France.
Discussions within the France Payments Forum were numerous and rich throughout the morning session with all participating members of the France Payments Forum.
